Recent French Cinema timeline (2000-2010)

1) 2000: Juliette Binoche is nominated for Best Actress at the 73rd Academy Awards for her role in Chocolat.

2) 2001: Amelie (Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain) is the highest grossing French language film released in North America. The film was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

3) 2001: Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte Des Loups) is the 2nd highest grossing French Language film in North America.

4) 2002: Roman Polanski wins best Director at the 75th Academy Awards for his film, the Pianist. He is the first French Director to win this award.

5) 2002: 8 Women (Huit Femmes) gets nominated for every major award (actress, supporting, film, cinematography..) at the Cesar Awards

6) 2004: The Chorus (Les choristes) is nominated for Best Foreign Language film.

7) 2005: The French World War I film Joyeux Noël is nominated for Best Foreign Language film.

9) 2007: Marion Cotillard won best Actress at the 80th Academy Awards for her role in La Môme (La Vie En Rose). This is the first French-language performance to be honored.

10) 2007: French-Iranian director Marjane Satrapi's film Persepolis is nominated for best animated feature at the 80th Academy Awards

11) 2008: Entre Les Murs (The Class) is the first French film since 1987 to win a Palme D'Or at The Cannes Film Festival. It was also nominated for Best foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

12) 2008: Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis, french comedy, breaks every French Box Office record and is the highest grossing French film, in France.

13) 2009: A Prophet (Un Prophete) is nominated for best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.
